Themes for the month: crayons and mammals. On the first day of September, I swung by Blick and the Neocolor 2s were ON SALE so I snagged six of them. (HGR: “That’s how they get you.”) Going to call them “watercolor crayons” to distinguish them from my Crayolas.

• Sept 1-2: Watercolor crayon sketch of trees (with white blossoms in BPW), a bunny, and a moon. Inaugural pic with my Neocolor 2s.
• Sept 2: Watercolor + pen + watercolor crayon. A variety of animal busts (terrier, bear, otter, cat, various rodents, weird deer) sketched atop a loose watercolor wash (phthalo turquoise & lemon yellow).
• Sept 3: Pen sketches of trees. Inspired by a Zack Feldman vid.
• Sept 4: Full-page crayon sketch of a bonsai-esque world tree.
• Sept 5: Various pen + crayon sketches. Angry thunderclouds, a rocket, and a castle; a stegosaurus, a dimetrodon, and a weasel eating pizza; daddy apple and baby apple (pen only).
• Sept 6: Watercolor crayon landscape of a sunset lake with grassy banks and a large tree.
• Sept 7: Pen sketch of a brick house, a tree with a very large and very hungry caterpillar, an ice-cream-cone-turned-caterpillar, and a nickel road sign.
• Sept 8-9: Pen + crayon sketch of a bear-like rodent in a mushroom forest.
• Sept 10: Watercolor crayon sketch (dry) atop watercolor wash. A cross between a “real” landscape and a Minecraft map. Desert home base; a pass through the mountains leading to a mushroom biome; a backdrop of plains & faraway mountains.
